NaturalCare OptiAll Review

Produced by NaturalCare, OptiAll is our next product for review. The supplement is produced in a facility that adheres to the cGMP guidelines. NaturalCare has been manufacturing and selling supplements for over 40 years. Yet, it was difficult to find information about this product. With little more than the nutrition facts pictured on the side of the box, we had to really rely on the ingredients list when reviewing this product. Continue reading to see what we discovered about this product.

Is NaturalCare OptiAll Effective?

With no testimonials to rely on, the only aspects of this product that we can use to answer this question is the list of ingredients. The ingredients are listed in three categories – the vitamins and minerals, the inactive ingredients, and the proprietary blend. We dislike the use of proprietary blends because it allows companies to get away with being cheap. A supplement has to list the quantities of all ingredients but doesn’t need to provide details about each individual ingredient in a proprietary blend and instead lists the amount of the proprietary blend. Therefore, a proprietary blend could use the barest minimum of a highly effective ingredient and list it in the ingredients so it looks good on the label even if the ingredient is not present in a high enough quantity to be effective. Without the quantities listed, we can’t know how potent the ingredients truly are.  For this reason, we believe complete transparency is the key factor when considering a supplement.

Let’s see how it stands up to our basic expectations for an eye health supplement:

Does it contain 10 mg of Lutein and 2 mg Zeaxanthin?

While it does contain lutein, the amount is not specified and there is no Zeaxanthin in this supplement. The two can be influential on their own but they are stronger together than they are apart. In the realm of eye health supplements, Lutein and Zeaxanthin are best friends, when they come to the party, they come together as a synergistic package deal. OptiAll would certainly be more effective if it had both carotenoids instead of only one.

Does it contain Vitamin C?

OptiAll has 250 mg of Vitamin C which is half of the amount used in the AREDS and AREDS2 formula. Vitamin C reduces the risk of cataracts and macular degeneration. Vitamin C performs many different functions in the body. From iron absorption to antioxidant activity to healing wounds, Vitamin C is always busy. There has to be enough Vitamin C for all of its functions which is why it’s unclear if the amount of Vitamin C in OptiAll is enough to get the desired benefits for your eyes, though it certainly is an ingredient that we’re glad to see was included in this product.

However, if the reason that Vitamin C is such an effective ingredient for eye health is because of its antioxidant properties, then it’s possible that OptiAll will still be effective because of the other antioxidant ingredients included, such as Astaxanthin, Quercetin, and Alpha-Lipoic Acid.

If it contains Zinc, does it contain Copper?

This is one duo that OptiAll didn’t break up! Zinc and Copper have a complicated relationship. Large amounts of Zinc can block the absorption of Copper which is needed for making blood cells, collagen, and energy, amongst other functions. This is why the two should come together in a supplement. Zinc helps produce melanin which protects cells from light damage. A Zinc deficiency can cause night blindness. Together with the antioxidants in an eye health supplement, Zinc can help slow AMD. Again, OptiAll uses the right ingredients but are they the right amounts? The ARED studies used 80 mg of Zinc while this formula only uses 15 mg.

Does it contain Chromium?

Unfortunately, no. This product does not contain Chromium for regulating intraocular pressure and helping eyes to focus. This ingredient can also be helpful in preventing glaucoma.

Does it contain Taurine?

OptiAll has an unspecified amount of Taurine, as it is the first ingredient in the proprietary blend. Taurine is important for protecting the retina and so seeing it on the ingredient list is a plus. However, we are left wondering once again if this ingredient is included in a potent dose or if it’s just a trace amount that won’t do the consumer much good.

While OptiAll has a good list of ingredients, we don’t know enough about the amounts used to conclusively determine that the product will be effective. Unfortunately, we were unable to find reviews to give us deeper insight into this product. We suspect that this product would be effective but ultimately, we can’t know for sure.

Is NaturalCare OptiAll Safe?

There are no mentioned side effects of taking this product. As with any new supplement or diet introduced into your daily life, we always advise talking to your healthcare professional about possible contraindications of any pre-existing medical conditions or medications that you are taking. Supplements work differently for everyone and the effects vary between individuals so it is always a good idea to run any health changes by a professional.

Summary

To our disappointment, there isn’t much information out there about this product. We like the ingredients OptiAll contains but we don’t know if they are present in sufficient amounts to be effective due to the use of a proprietary blend. There were no reviews that could give us real testimonials as to whether or not this is a quality product worth investing in, though the 60-day money-back guarantee is certainly a plus. NaturalCare OptiAll seems to be a decent product and could potentially be effective though we couldn’t gather definitive evidence to prove its quality.
